Purdue's Carsen Edwards Declares For 2019 NBA Draft

The Boilermakers could be losing a key roster piece.

Over the weekend, multiple reports surfaced with some disappointing news for fans of thePurdue Boilermakers.Fans found out that star guardCarsen Edwardswould be declaring for the 2019NBA Draft.Considering how well Edwards played down the stretch,it was substantial news for the program moving forward.

Edwards ended up confirming the news himself.

AsI wrotea few weeks back, this probably wasn't unexpected.Edwards was widely regarded was one of the Big Ten's best players and played extremely well down the stretch. It was hard to imagine him coming back for another season and topping what he did in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.Notably, his 42 points against Virginia stands out as one of the more impressive individual postseason performances of any player in recent memory.

During his career with Purdue,Edwards played in a total of 102 games, including a variety of NCAA Tournament games over the last few years. He finished last season averaging an impressive 24.3 points,3.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game during last season.Edwards' ability to create his own shot really separated himself from others. He also showed a tendency to deliver in big moments.

For Purdue, there's simply no replacing a player like Edwards.Even blue blood programs don't expect to bring in players of his significance on a yearly basis. The Boilermakers will simply hope to replace him by committee.Get a few teammates to improve in the offseason and hope a new contributor or two can step up as well.

There's no telling how Edwards will end up doing, but BTPowerhouse will keep you posted as the NBA Draft draws nearer.
